In 1989 Fred and Linda Rice acquired a Santa Ynez ranch to grow wine grapes.  Today, Sunstone is one of the largest organic vineyard estates in Santa Barbara County.  The 77 acres planted to Bordeaux and Rhone varietals meet all California Certified Organic Farmer (C.C.O.F.) standards.

The winery has an ideal south-sloping exposure with sandy, rocky soil, and a microclimate that features early morning fog. warm, breezy afternoons, and cool evenings.  A perfect spot for growing top-notch organic grapes.  Along with Sunstone's renowned Rhone varietals, which have received Gold Medals and high points from Wine Enthusiast, their highly acclaimed "Eros", is a Meritage blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.
